Ragtown!
Ragtown Gospel Theater

(The story behind Post, TX)

Saturday, September 26, 2020

Departing Abilene

$109 per person

Full payment due upon booking

Highlights Include:

  • The eccentric multi-millionaire cereal inventor, C.W. Post decided to create a utopian farming community on the South Plains of Texas, centered around a city he planned to call Post City. He purchased 250,000 acres of land and divided it into quarter-section farms, and set about building houses and barns, and drilling water wells on each farm. He then advertised in newspapers all over the country, offering the opportunity to “Make Money In Texas!” People came from everywhere…but it was anything but utopia.
  • “Ragtown!” is a story about the people who left everything behind to follow a man of vision out to the desolate plains, hoping to make a fresh start of their lives. The story and music were written by Chip Polk, a project which took five years to complete. His collaborator on the elaborate music for the production, Abilene native, Andy Patterson, composed the orchestral arrangements, and conducted an elite group of instrumentalists to create the amazing soundtrack for the musical. Among those were world-acclaimed violinist and composer Raimundo Pentaforte, a Hardin Simmons graduate, who also offered collaboration with Patterson on some of the arrangements.
  • Meals:  Dinner
